Somerville has always been more than a playground – it’s been a home for imagination, laughter, and community since 1971. What began as a patch of disused land has grown into Lewisham’s only independent adventure playground, shaped by thousands of children, staff, volunteers, and local families.
For over 50 years, Somerville has given young people a place to climb, build, paint, create, and belong – a place to feel safe, make friends, learn new skills, and grow into confident young adults.
Why we need your support
Since Covid and the cost-of-living crisis, funding has become much harder to find. We now welcome over 1,500 children and young people through our gates, and we receive no direct council or government funding. Your monthly support helps us keep the gates open, the clubhouse running and the adventure alive.
By giving a small monthly donation, you help sustain a unique community space that has shaped generations of Lewisham families. The Somerville is a registered charity (Somerville Youth & Play Provision, Charity No. 1121081).
- £10 a month covers the cost of one child attending Somerville for a full year and experiencing a range of activities on and off site.

- What will my money be used for?
Your donation will be used to buy equipment, help us deliver subsidised trips for low-income families and support the organisation with running costs. - Who will benefit from my donation?
Children and young people who use the playground or youth clubs will directly benefit. We also get visits from families, schools and other community groups. - How much money do I need to donate?
There is no lower or upper limit, donate whatever you feel you can afford. Just £3 a month would make a real difference to the centre. - How can I send my donation?
