Name: Daryl Castillo
I grew up in nearby Deptford attending youth projects in the area as a teen learning music predominantly. I have volunteered, worked and took placements in various youth and learning disabled organisations over five years in adulthood.
After earning a degree in Community & Youth Work at nearby Goldsmith’s University in 2017, I then did various youth work roles in centre-based, mentoring, outreach and detached settings before finally arriving at The Somerville.
Why I like to work for SYPP:
Youth workers and the New Cross area are the most important aspects of me growing up and being an adult, so starting work in the Somerville at the start of 2021 as a youth worker is an ideal fit for me.
Young people have the right to be safe, respected and listened to. I have a passion for being a mentor to those who need guidance or want to learn skills they can use in their future adult lives, and The Somerville has a great history with providing this kind of service along with the fun activities they offer.
